Well last weekend we ventured out to parts of the island we have not seen yet. Not to see the beautiful ocean or the grand scenic views from the hilltops, but to find Babies-r-us. We found it without any problems or getting lost. It was quite different than what I expected. I expected to find the American store in Japan. Well dah we are not in America any more. The front of the store is very deceiving as you can see, but as we entered the store we see these grand displays of very very expensive baby items. We saw a car seat that reclines and swivels for almost $700. Some strollers that ranged from $600 to over $1000. "Let's go with Papa" said the one message attached to the stroller. I saw this cute seat and thought Victoria would like it to sit in until I looked closer and it is for the bathtub. One quick side note; at the orientation we had to take when we arrived on Okinawa, they told us about how small children and babies normally don't sit in car seats, and that the Japanese believe they are safest in mommies arms. So, I have been having these awful flashbacks while driving of Michael sitting on the hump of my mom's Pinto in the back seat waving to all those that pass by. As Americans here we have to follow American laws. So, yes we have to use car seats.
There were some similar things about this Babies-R-Us store, however. The pacifier section and toy section. They had a bottle section, but nothing close to the selections we have in the states. No Dr. Browns here! The diapers were all Japanese brand, except for the small Pampers selection. The clothing is very different but I will write another blog about that later. Anyway, we had fun and it was nice to visit a familiar store in a different country.
Much Love,
Andreana

Wow that car seat is crazy looking. I think maybe thats the one that the guy invented on the invention show here. You guys should buy car seats here and strollers and then sell them for cheaper there. I bet you could make some good money esspecially if theirs cost so much. I can't believe it costs that much. That baby seat is funny. Is that baby naked with that plastic thing between her legs holding her up? hmmmm...it doesn't look so comfortable if they sit in it naked...ouch
